A sprinkler malfunction caused a muddy mess in Kearny Mesa early Wednesday.
A pile of mud and ice plant slid down the hillside along Murphy Canyon Road near Balboa Avenue.
City workers arrived after 6:30 a.m. to assess the situation. They were planning to bring a truck in to help clean up the mud and get the road conditions back to normal.
Murphy Canyon Road was not closed because of the mudslide, officials said.
