Overturned Box Truck Bursts Into Flames

A box truck traveling on Interstate 5 near downtown San Diego crashed Saturday, erupting into flames. The smoke could be seen by drivers on the freeway for miles. Here’s some footage of the scene.

Heavy smoke filled the air on a freeway near downtown San Diego Saturday morning after a box truck crashed and overturned, bursting into flames.

The fiery crash happened just before 9:30 a.m. on southbound Interstate 5 near the Front Street exit. Many passersby reported seeing thick smoke stemming from the overturned truck on the freeway.

California Highway Patrol officials said everyone inside the truck made it out safely before the flames erupted. The truck was carrying Christmas products and paper goods.

The cause of the accident is under investigation. No further details were immediately available.
