Funeral Held for Troubled Officer

Rock Church hosted funeral for officer who took his own life

Police officers, family and friends attended the funeral of Officer David Hall Tuesday morning at Rock Church in Point Loma.

Family members requested privacy and asked that the funeral be closed to the media.

The San Diego Police Department confirmed that Hall committed suicide last week, only days before he was supposed to attend a pretrial hearing. While he was off-duty, Hall was charged for a hit-and-run and driving under the influence for an incident that occurred in February.

“It definitely seems as though things come in cycles,” an officer attending the funeral said. “We’re going through a cycle right now.”

Hall was well liked in the unit and constantly spoke of his family at work, said the officer.

“The side we saw was typically an upbeat side,” he said.

The 14-year veteran with the department was under a lot of stress, Chief William Lansdowne said. Hall met with a police wellness team a few days before taking his own life, but did not take away his service weapons. Police have yet to confirm which weapon Hall used to take his life.
