Fire Breaks Out at Banker's Hill Hotel

The fire started around 1 a.m. at the New Palace Hotel on Fifth Avenue

A fire broke out at a residential hotel in Bankers Hill early Tuesday morning, according to authorities.

The fire started around 1 a.m. at the New Palace Hotel on Fifth Avenue and the blaze was knocked down shortly before fire crews arrived.

One person who was evacuated said a woman's yelling alerted her to the fire.

"I came out of my apartment and went toward the corner toward the elevator because that's where I could hear the lady yell," said resident Niki Hilerio. "I yelled to her, 'Is there a fire?' and she said, 'Yes, yes!'"

Some people staying at the hotel had to be evacuated after the overhead sprinkler system caused some flooding. The Red Cross is assisting one person for displacement.

Fire officials believe the cause is from an electrical shortage in one of the hotel rooms.
