A driver was going too fast when his vehicle struck and killed a pedestrian in the South Bay last month, San Diego police said.
The victim was walking along Del Sol Boulevard near Dennery Road just after 7 a.m. on July 30, police said.
San Diego Fire-Rescue crews and police were called when the pedestrian was spotted on the ground in the roadway.
“He had significant injuries and unfortunately he succumbed to those injuries,” said SDPD Lt. Christian Sharp. The man has not been identified.
All drivers remained at the scene.
NBC 7 has learned Carlos Franco, 20, was booked by SDPD traffic police on a charge of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence in connection with the collision.
Franco is accused of excessive speed, leading to the pedestrian's death, police said.

He was being held on $50,000 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned Thursday, August 16.
The location of the collision was near an apartment complex and a residential area east of Interstate 805 and north of State Route 905.
