A manhunt was underway Saturday for a driver who struck and killed an elderly man in National City, then sped off, police said.

The victim had just finished having dinner at a family restaurant just after 8 p.m. Friday on Highland Avenue when it happened. It appears he was trying to cross in the cross walk when he was hit by a driver headed South on highland, police said. The driver didn't stop.
" The vehicle fled the scene before we got here, but witnesses describe an SUV type vehicle, dark blue or green in color," Sgt. Graham Young said.
