Coast Guard Halts Search for Oil Worker

The Coast Guard has given up its search for an oil company worker who went overboard off San Diego when a line holding a basket that was transferring him between ships snapped.

Coast Guard spokesman Lt. Josh Nelson says Reynaldo Agas of the Philippines fell into the ocean some 70 miles south of San Diego Wednesday night.

Nelson says a helicopter and a patrol boat searched more than 200 square nautical miles for 16 hours Thursday, but found no sign of Agas.

The man had been on the SKS Sinni, which flies the Singapore flag, and was transferring to the oil tanker BW Thames, which flies the Marshall Islands flag.
