Chula Vista Man Builds Desk for Students to Use for Distance Learning

Chula Vista resident Jerson Ramirez is a self-proclaimed, “YouTube-taught” carpenter. He’s been using his newfound skills during the pandemic to create a home-based business out of his garage where he’s building and selling everything from tables to closets. However, his passion project has become making school desks for children who are distance learning in his community. So far, Ramirez has delivered four desks, and he has 17 more ready to go. He has requests for dozens more and he’s charging $50 per desk – but only if a family can afford it. Through donations on this GoFundMe page, Ramirez has been able to offer some desks for free. Ramirez doesn’t have any children of his own, but he wants to make sure the children in his community have the tools they need to succeed.
