Jeffery Edwards was arrested and has been fired from the Carlsbad Police Department. NBC 7’s Mackenzie Maynard has the details.

A former Carlsbad police officer was arrested Friday for burglary and stalking, according to the Oceanside Police Police Department.

Oceanside PD said it conducted an investigation on Jeffry Edwards, 37, after receiving a call from the Carlsbad Police Department saying one of its police officers may have committed a crime in Oceanside.

Edwards was arrested in San Clemente for allegedly breaking into the home of his ex-girlfriend who had had been stalking.

He was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.

Edwards' employment has been terminated by Carlsbad PD.

On Saturday, the department issued a statement through its Facebook page:

"If you saw the media story from the Oceanside Police Department that involved a former Carlsbad Police Officer, here is a little more information.

We share the community's concern when hearing about this type of crime. This incident has been taken very seriously by our department and by Oceanside's.

We would like the community to know that Edwards is not currently employed by the Police Department. It is also important to note that we are not permitted to comment on personnel issues but to say, Edward's employment status is not related to this case.

Out of respect for the Oceanside Police Department, their ongoing investigations and the involved parties, we will defer to Oceanside's release of information on this ongoing investigation.

We would like to thank the Oceanside Police Department for their quick action and the community for their continued support."
