Deadly Shooting in Parking Lot of La Mesa Burlington Coat Factory

NBC 7 Liberty Zabala reports on the shooting death of a man in a store parking lot on El Cajon Boulevard near Baltimore Drive.

La Mesa police sought two people, suspected in a deadly shooting in the parking lot of a Burlington Coat Factory store Thursday.

Police received a call Thursday at 6:47 p.m. of a verbal dispute in the store parking lot on El Cajon Boulevard near Baltimore Drive, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

The caller reported hearing a gunshot and saw a man stumble to the ground, police said.

Officers attempted life-saving measures but the victim was declared dead at the scene.

Sean Johnson said the victim was his cousin. He was loving and cared about everyone he loved, Johnson said. 

“One of my longest living associates, my best friend, my family member - He is everything to me and to a lot of people," Johnson said. 

According to witnesses, a man and a woman were seen running from the area after the incident.

Police said one of the suspects is about 6 feet tall and 160 pounds, with short hair. He was wearing a white collared shirt and black shorts and appeared to be 20 - 25 years old. 

Investigators described the second suspect as a woman with long hair in a bun, 5 feet 3 inches tall, and about 18 - 20 years old. She was wearing a dark red shirt and black shorts. 

La Mesa police taped off the entire parking lot during the investigation and reopened it Friday about 5 a.m. 

Earlier Thursday evening, police were searching for two suspects in connection to a shooting in the same area.

At this time, it is unknown if the two incidents are related.

No other information was available.
