Aztecs Fall in MWC Tournament Final

SDSU will miss the 2019 NCAA Tournament after loss to Utah St.

Devin Watson played his heart out. He just needed someone else to give him some help.

San Diego State's senior guard scored 18 points in the Mountain West Conference Championship Game but was the only Aztec to reach double figures in a 64-57 loss to Utah State that sent the Aggies to the NCAA Tournament and put the Aztecs in position to hope they can get an invitation to another post-season event.

The Aztecs played well defensively, keeping one of the nation's better shooting teams from getting too far out of sight. But SDSU couldn't get enough of their own shots to fall, making just 33% of their attempts. Matt Mitchell and Jalen McDaniels both scored eight points on a combined 7-for-24 from the floor.

Aggies junior guard Sam Merrill had a game-high 24 points for Utah State. San Diego State will learn on Sunday night if they get to play any more games in 2019, perhaps in the NIT, CBI or CollegeInsider.com Tournament.
