A 33-year-old man was hospitalized following an overnight shooting in a Carlsbad condo.

After an hourslong search by police, a man from Banning, California, was arrested for attempted murder Tuesday after he allegedly shot a man at a party at a condo in Carlsbad.

Malique Travon Campbell, 26, was taken into custody in Banning, approximately 80 miles north of Carlsbad, the Carlsbad Police Department confirmed Tuesday. He had been arrested just before 10 a.m. -- about seven hours after the shooting.

The Carlsbad Police Department said Campbell faces charges of attempted murder, assault with a firearm, felon in possession of a firearm and a probation violation.

Just after 3 a.m. Tuesday, Carlsbad police officers responded to two calls for help in the 900 block of Tide Court. The first call was a report of drugs and a party happening at a condo.

The second call to police was made at 3:47 a.m., while officers were already outside the address on Tide Court. The caller reported hearing the sound of shots fired, police said. At the scene, officers found what looked like bullet holes in the walls of the condo.

As the investigation unfolded, it was discovered a 33-year-old man was dropped off at an area hospital with what appeared to be gunshot wounds, authorities said. Carlsbad police said he suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police launched a search for the suspect in the shooting. Officers said they were looking for a white Acura TL with a personalized license plate that read “Acura 4” in connection to the shooting.

Police have not released details on what led to up to the shooting. Campbell is expected to appear in court Thursday in Vista.
