SD Woman to Sit With First Lady

Local navy spouse will join Michelle Obama during the State of the Union address

A San Diego woman will be sitting with the First Lady Tuesday night during the State of the Union address.

Adrienne Howard was recognized by Michelle Obama for her work inspired by Joining Forces. She is a military spouse who has three children with her husband — a commander is the Navy who is on a seven-month deployment.

Howard has moved 14 times during her husband’s career. During her time in San Diego, she has been an active volunteer with the naval community. She started a program to “adopt” a sailor by enlisting people to write letters to a troop during their deployment.

Howard will sit in the First Lady’s box for the State of the Union address, which begins at 6 p.m. PST.
