Sounds Like San Diego: Sept. 11

NYC post-hardcore visionaries Quicksand release first album in 22 years

Much of my free time in high school was spent in hot basements and garages listening to hardcore bands scream their angst into cheap microphones as we thrashed around in the limited space, dripping in sweat. If we weren't seeing bands live, we were listening to tapes and CDs of bands like Quicksand. I listened to "Slip" so much that my cassette snapped. Tonight, 27 years after forming, the band plays Belly Up, and I'm kind of guessing it is going to feel like a high school reunion. Around town, local blues singer Danielle Nicole plays Soda Bar, Sacramento's Lost Things play the Merrow and black metal band Infinite Death play at Til-Two Club.
