Ski Season Has Arrived

Recent storm drops nearly 3 feet on parts of the Sierra

Most San Diegans are wearing smiles after our "about time" change in the weather this week.

While the recent storm scattered much-needed rain around our county, up in the Sierra Mountains much anticipated snow fell. At Mammoth Mountain, operations began Thursday, six full days ahead of the scheduled grand opening.

Granted, only a fraction of the mountain is open, a few runs and a few lifts, but it's a start. And after last year resulted in one of the most dismal ski seasons ever, opening three weeks before Thanksgiving is an answer to the prayers of all California skiers and snowboarders.

We even saw a dusting in our local mountains, not enough for a respectable snowball. Still, as noted  before, it's a start and enough so that the folks at Big Bear have kicked off their annual winter contest.

Take a look -- you could win you a season pass.
