Sticky "air you can wear" and chances of thunderstorms are expected to linger through the work week in the mountains and deserts.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued Monday for parts of North County as a strong thunderstorm was moving northwest across that section of San Diego County.
Just before 2:30 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located near Highway S2 between state routes 79 and 78, or near Julian, moving northwest at 5 mph. the warning expired at 3:30 p.m.
In Julian, about a quarter of an inch of rain doused the mountain town in the late afternoon. Experts say there is an increased chance of lightning strikes in the area, which means a greater chance of a dangerous strike causing a fire.
NBC 7 Meteorologist Dagmar Midcap said the best chance for thunderstorms would be Tuesday and Wednesday.
Along the coast, muggy weather could keep San Diegans from enjoying a Monday night out, Midcap said.
Tuesday highs along the beaches are expected to reach the mid 70's to low 80's amid some humidity. Chula Vista could reach 80 degrees while Fallbrook could feel 90-degree heat.
Midcap said places like Escondido, Poway, El Cajon and East Lake could see isolated pop-up thunderstorms on Tuesday.
