Powerful Winds Expected in San Diego's East County, Desert Region

A high wind warning has been issued for San Diego's East County and desert region tonight through Friday.

San Diego County will experience unusually high winds late Thursday and throughout the day Friday according to a warning issued by the National Weather Service.

The high wind warning will affect residents and travelers in the mountains in San Diego’s East County including Julian and Pine Valley.

Strong west to southwest winds could begin at 4 p.m. Thursday and were expected to be unusually strong through 8 p.m. Friday, the NWS said.

Gusts up to 75 mph are possible at mountain ridge tops while 60 mph gusts could be recorded at isolated locations on the desert floor. Blowing sand or dust may occur.

Drivers of high-profile vehicles and trailers may want to be prepared for difficult driving conditions.
