Weekend Events: Aug. 17-19

We're in the thick of August, and with only a few weeks left of summer it's time to take advantage of the best San Diego has to offer.

Check out what's going on this weekend.

Friday, Aug. 17

Best of San Diego Party
6:30 p.m. at NCT Promenade at Liberty Station
Sample some of the best food, drinks and entertainment in America's Finest City at the San Diego Magazine annual party. Tons of delicious dishes will be served up by top restaurants and beer will be provided by multiple breweries. Tickets start at $55 and sell out quick -- so get yours before the event online.

Fireworks @ Petco Park
7 p.m. at Padres Stadiumn
Following the Padres vs. Giants game on Friday night, check out the fireworks show at Petco Park Support the Padres as they play one of the best teams in Major League Baseball. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

Lantern Festival

5 p.m. at 4474 El Cajon Blvd.
The three-day San Diego Lantern Festival embracing oriental culture begins Friday night at Hoover High School. Thousands of attendees will witness the Miss Asia 2012 contest alongside a nightly lantern parade. It's also an opportunity to try some multicultural grub and games.
 

Saturday,  Aug. 18

Over The Edge

9 a.m. at Manchester Grand Hyatt
A few brave individuals will rappel down 33 stories of the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego to raise money for charity. Participants who raised more than $1,000 will Proceeds benefit Kids Included Together, which support after school programs. Grab a good seat and watch the benefactors "fall" more than 350 feet.

Stone Anniversary Celebration
11 a.m. at 333 S Twin Oaks Valley Rd.
San Diego's largest beer distributor will be celebrating its 16th birthday with a beerful celebration. More than 45 breweries will join in for the renowned festival of brews. The event helps to benefit multiple charities and tickets start at $40.

Gourmet Food Truck Festival
3 to 9 p.m. at Bate Nuts Farm in Valley Center
More than a dozen fancy food trucks will all be parked in Valley Center this weekend -- so you can try a variety of dishes. Well-known mobile eaters Devilicious and Crepes Bonaparte will be at the foodie event. Entrance to the festival is free.


Sunday, Aug. 19

Summer Pops
7:30 p.m. Embarcadero Marina Park South
Enjoy a larger-than-life version of "Pirates of the Caribbean" on Sunday night. The Summer Pops orchestra will play the original score live along with the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus. A pirate ship will be docked at the harbor and a sword-fighting demonstration serve as additional entertainment. Tickets for the family-friendly event start at $18.

Urban Solace Turns 5
6 p.m. at 3823 30th St.
One of San Diego's beloved neighborhood restaurants is celebrating its 5th birthday with a special party. Guests can enjoy drinks and light food samples featuring chef Matt Gordon's organic menu. Reservations are encouraged -- for more information check out the event website.
