Weekend Events: Sept. 7-9

Before September fully kicks in, it might be a good idea to embrace outside events before the fall chill comes to town.

Here are some fun things going on in San Diego this weekend.

Friday, Sept. 7.

Contemporary Art Fair
Noon to 7 p.m., Balboa Park
The annual art fair in Balboa Park is aiming to join urban style with natural elements. Check out artwork from dozens of vendors from around the world when the 3-day event starts Friday.

Padres Beerfest
5 p.m. at Petco Park
What's better than baseball and beer together? Almost nothing. Head over to Petco Park sample some of San Diego's best brew while watching the Padres take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. Each beer costs $5. Play ball!

Saturday, Sept. 8

Kustom Kulture
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in Historic Old Town
Want to see some tricked-out cars up close? Then head over to Old Town on Saturday morning for the Kustom Kulture event. Hot rods, Custom muscle cars and trucks will be on display throughout the streets with funky paint jobs. And don’t miss out on the live music or “low-brow” art show. Oh, and did we mention it’s free?

Memorial 9-11 Stair Climb

9:01 a.m. at Hilton Bayfront
Honor those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 by attending the special fundraising event for firefighters and their families. San Diegans will climb 110 floors, the same number of the Twin Towers, in the name of a fallen emergency responder.

Poway Parade
9 a.m. at Poway and Pomerado Road
Join families and friends in Poway as they gather together to celebrate their neighborhood with dozens of participants. Poway Road will be closed until noon, so make sure to park accordingly.

Free Movie Screening

7:30 p.m. at Ellen Browning Scripps Park

Treat the family to a traditional night out at the movies – with a twist. The San Diego Film Festival will host a special outdoor screening of “Mirror, Mirror” Saturday night. The park is right next to the ocean, so whether you watch the movie or the sunset, it’s bound to be a good time.

Sunday, Sept. 9
Titanic Exhibition
10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at San Diego Museum of Natural History
For the last few months, San Diego has been home to thousands of artifacts from the Titanic, the fated ship that met its icy end in 1912. Sunday is the last day to check out the exhibit, so make sure to say farewell to the special exhibition before it sails away. Tickets cost $27 for adults, $18 for children.

Greek Festival
11 a.m. to 9 p.m. at 3459 Manchester Ave.
Head up to Cardiff-by-the-Sea for some of the best food and entertainment you'll see this month. Traditional Greek culture will be celebrated at the annual festival and vendors will provide delicious Greek fare -- indulge by sampling the dolmades or spanikopita.

Coronado Concert in the Park

5 p.m. at Spreckels Park
The sun is setting on opportunities to see the summer concert series in Coronado at Spreckels Park. For the last show of the summer, locals who play in band In Midlife Crisis will jam out in honor of summer’s final days. The show is free and open to the public.
