New Restaurants for Summertime

Sick of visiting the same old go-to bar around the corner? Venture out of your 'hood to try these new restaurants throughout San Diego.

BGR The Burger Joint
13483 Poway Rd.
America's Finest City is no stranger to boutique burgers, but BGR decided to build a location a little further away from its downtown doppelgangers. Challenge your friends to complete the 9-pound burger which includes two heads of lettuce, eight tomatoes, three red onions, four whole pickles and "a river" of sauce. If it's finished in one sitting, it's free.

Uptown Tavern
1236 University Ave.
The man behind the uber trendy drinking hole in North Park West Coast Tavern jumped a few streets over to Hillcrest for his attempt at a neighborhood eatery. Uptown Tavern serves up funky twists on classic favorites, and servers encourage sharing grub with your pals. The best part? Plenty of local brews are available on tap.

True Food Kitchen
7007 Friars Rd.
Good food at a mall? At Fashion Valley, that's the norm. Joining delicious sit-downs such as STACKED and 59th & Lex, True Food Kitchen is a Green Certified restaurant striving to stay true to food. With a variety of fresh options, this is a place the whole family can enjoy for brunch, lunch or dinner.

Plumeria
4661 Park Blvd.
Vegetarians and vegans can add another place to go for their specific meat-free needs. Plumeria combines local veggies with a Thai twist. It seems like a good place for the picky eaters, since gluten-free diners have plenty of options to choose from, ranging from specialty noodles to seaweed salad.

GRO Cafe
1649 El Prado
Right in the heart of Balboa Park, GRO Cafe has embraced the ever-so-popular farm-to-table movement by serving all organic food. Located in the Casa de Balboa building, it's a great place to grab some reasonably-priced greens after a run through the park.

Bardot
1025 Prospect St.
It wouldn't be summer without a visit to the ice cream shop, and this La Jolla storefront is sure to please anyone with a sweet tooth. Bardot's ice cream is encased in a candy-hard shell that won't dribble down your chin in the warmer months.
