PETA Calls Armani a Liar in San Francisco

Animal rights group protests designers SF store

There were no naked women or banned ads but the hippies at PETA were in San Francisco on Tuesday to call Georgio Armani a liar.

A group of protesters descended on the Giorgio Armani Boutique at Post Street in San Francisco to protest Armani's use of fur even after they say he promised to stop.

In the graphic film, rabbits twitch and shake after their throats are cut and it also shows workers pulling rabbits out of cages by their ears and stun them with electrical devices as the animals scream.

"To satisfy the whims of luxury, Armani is sentencing countless rabbits--one of the gentlest species--to a horrific life and a violent death in China, a country with no animal protection laws," says PETA Senior Vice President Dan Mathews

PETA said Armani made a public promise to stop using fur, but he broke his promise. His latest collection include jackets trimmed with rabbit fur, fur-hemmed skirts, floral-printed fur coats and rabbit-trimmed snowsuits for toddlers.

The group held giant posters of Armani with an elongated Pinocchio nose. Get it? The protesters also showed new undercover film footage, narrated by Hollywood star Gillian Anderson, which showed horrible conditions on fur farms in China and France. The group said Armani has bought rabbit fur from the two countries.

The group said many of the top fashion designers, including Calvin Klein, Stella McCartney, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfiger, are able to put out high end lines without using any fur.
