Fresh Air

As summer begins to wane, find more reasons to go outdoors with a colorful kite, bold new bike or some budget-savvy shoes.

TAKE FLITE: One of the many visual treats of San Diego is seeing the kites flying at Mission Bay Park. If you thought such pleasures were reserved for aeronauts, think again. Kite Flite San Diego carries a wide selection of kites for a variety of skill levels. Newbies can take to the skies with Easy Flyer kites ($29) printed with rainbows, lobsters, and a variety of other designs. The seasoned kite pilot can also find intermediate and advanced stunt kites ranging from $45-$279. If kites aren't quite your thing, their Seaport Village store also offers a variety of large and small flying toys.

BIKE BREAK: In case you hadn't heard, San Diego has some awesome bike paths and great weather to go along with them. To take advantage of both, stop by and chat with the very helpful folks at Adams Avenue Bicycles. The staff have the expertise to get you hooked up with the right bike for your body and skill level, and they have an affordable, on-site service shop in case you need a helping hand. For the independent types, bicycle maintenance classes are also offered on Mondays and Wednesdays for $35 each. Check out their website for more details.

SASSY STROLL: Sometimes the easiest way to get outdoors is to simply go for a walk. The Skechers Outlet store in Pacific Beach has comfortable shoes for men, women and children in styles ranging from classic sneakers to funky platforms. Right now, if you buy one pair you'll get the second for half price. Pick up a pair for everyone in the family and soak up some summer while it's still here.
