Dressing the Part

Get backstage access to a vast costume collection, try on authentic costumes, step onto the stage and hear the applause through a new exhibit with the San Diego History Center and The Old Globe.

The exhibition, opened just last week, emphasizes the process involved in taking costume ideas from concept drawings all the way to the stage.

Using technology, the center offers visitors the chance to see a costume being sketched, patterened, fabricated, fitted and finally on stage.

Visitors can also try on original costumes from the Old Globe’s productions of β€œThe Taming of the Shrew”, β€œKing Lear”, and β€œDr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas!”

Then, visitors will get to step on a small stage that is theatrically lit by the Old Globe team; when visitors step on stage the house lights dim, stage lights engage and the house begins to applaud.
