Weekend Events: Sept. 28-30

The relentless late summer heat has finally left San Diego – so say farewell to September at these fun events.

Friday, Sept. 28.

“Almost Famous” Block Party
7 p.m. in Gaslamp District
You won’t want to miss the San Diego Film Festival “Almost Famous” party on Friday night. Without a doubt, it’s going to be one of the coolest events this year. There’s live music and a special screening of the iconic film, in addition to an appearance from the original Penny Lane.

Scream Zone
7 p.m. to midnight at Del Mar Fairgrounds
If you're ready to get spooked, head up to the Del Mar Fairgrounds for the annual haunting. The House of Horror, Haunted Hayride and The Chamber open on Friday night to frighten even the bravest San Diegan. Halloween's only a month away, so get ready to get scared.

Saturday, Sept. 29

New Belgium's Tour de Fat

11 a.m. in Golden Hill
A parade of merry, costumed bicyclists will ride through Golden Hill Saturday during the New Belgium Brewing Company’s quirky Tour de Fat event. The day’s itinerary includes a colorful, costumed bicycle parade from 11 a.m. to noon, followed by live entertainment, New Belgium beer, food, unusual bike contests and other fun activities.

Wild West BonitaFest
9 a.m. at the 5000-block of Bonita Road
The communities of Bonita and Sweetwater Valley will celebrate their heritage Saturday with the 40th Annual “Wild West” BonitaFest. The Bonnie Brae Shopping Center on Bonita Road will be the main hub of the event, boasting vendor booths offering food, crafts, youth organizations and reps from local businesses. A community parade is set to kick off the event around 10 a.m.

Politifest
10 a.m. at Liberty Station
Our media partner Voice of San Diego is hosting its second annual Politifest event, which harness and highlights resident's ideas to make San Diego a better city. The event will bring local politics together with a beer garden, kid-friendly activities and live music during the outdoor event. Plus there’s a mayoral debate between Carl DeMaio and Bob Filner – so there’s definitely going to be some form of entertainment there.

Sunday, Sept. 30

Adams Avenue Street Fair
10 a.m. in Normal Heights
The two-day music festival will draw thousands of San Diegans to the streets for culture, live entertainment and food. This all-ages event is free and will also be going on Saturday. Be warned, parking can be tricky so check on public transportation options.

Oceanside Harbor Days
9 a.m. at Oceanside Harbor
Drive up to scenic North County for a day filled with family fun. Boaters can compete in a kayaking during the “Nail and Sail” competition where competitors create their own watercrafts. Feel free to dress up in nautical-themed apparel to match the festive spirit of the event.
