    The Asian Film Festival is kicking off in San Diego on Thursday, Oct. 20.

    Grab some popcorn -- the 12th San Diego Asian Film Festival is coming to a theater near you.

    From Oct. 20 to 28, movie fans will be able to watch a variety of films, including a few free showings. Watch local artists strut their stuff in the showing of SD Block Party, a collaboration of short films by San Diegans.

    The Gala Awards Dinner on Oct. 22 at Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina will let festival-goers don their best duds to walk the red carpet and mingle with some of the stars of the festival. Other parties and panels will also be held throughout the event.

    San Diego’s Asian Film Festival will be held at Mission Valley UltraStar Cinemas, with a few screenings at UCSD’s The Loft and Culy Warehouse. Ticket prices vary. For more information, visit the event website.
