Skate with the Pros: Tony Hawk Rolls Into Encinitas

Renowned skateboarders will skate with youth at the YMCA Skate Park Sunday

Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk will be in Encinitas Sunday for “Skate with the Pros Day” at the YMCA Skate Park at 200 Saxony Road.

The event is a way for professional skateboarders to reward local youth for their fundraising efforts, which have contributed to the renovation and expansion of the world-renowned YMCA Skate Park at the Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA.

Youth became eligible to partake in the event if they raised $1,500 for the new skate park project.

To praise the kids for their fundraising achievements, Hawk – along with other skateboarding pros such as Ryan Sheckler, Danny Way, Andy MacDonald, Pierre Luc Gagnon, Kevin Stabb, Wes Kremer, Neal Mims, Mitchie Brusco and Paul Luc Ronchetti – will hit the pavement at the skate park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and make good on their end of the deal.

The pro skaters will participate in demos and teach amateur skaters the tricks of the trade.

The ongoing renovation efforts at the YMCA Skate Park are designed to positively promote skate culture, provide a facility for kids to develop their skateboarding skills and keep skate youth out of trouble and off the streets.

Around 35 to 40 community members and kids are expected at Sunday’s event.
