5 Falltacular Ways to Connect With Your Family
    Richard Benton

With so many events around town this month, it's best to pace yourself.

What better way to get the whole holiday season started though than December Nights Friday evening. For two nights, hundreds of thousands of locals converge on Balboa Park for carols, cocoa and culture. Enjoy the free cheer from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday Noon to 10 p.m. Museums are open for free and there's an entire evening of performers planned for four stages inside the park. Get a map here.

On Saturday, start off the holidays off with a great buzz with the San Diego Strong Ale Festival. Pizza Port Carlsbad is hosting its annual ode to bold ales with more than 75 beers from across the nation. Starts at 11 a.m. and runs through 11 p.m. For $30, you can enjoy a glass and eight 4 oz tasters. At 8% alcohol, you'll want to be sure to bring a friend.

Avoid the long-distance flight but still get in the spirit of the season with the Rockettes performing at the San Diego Sports Arena. Miss the rush and catch the "Radio City Christmas Spectacular" Friday at 4 p.m. or grab a Saturday or Sunday show.

Our partners at San Diego Magazine lists this next option as one of their 18 Events Not to Miss in December. The South Park Holiday Walkabout is scheduled for Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. Shops, galleries, cafes and taverns will be decorated for locals riding the free trolley or following the Walkabout guide.
