San Diego Will Scare You

Halloween-themed attractions are finally here

Every October people count the days until they trick-or-treat, or attend the praised costume parties, but in the meantime there is fun-filled scary attractions that will keep on edge before Halloween.

The most historic haunted place is the Whaley House in Old Town. The house stands silently watching over San Diego Avenue as it has done for a century and a half, along with the ghosts that inhabit it. Take a tour to see and learn about the history of the Whaley family, the murders and suicide mishaps. Throughout the month of Oct. tours run every day from 10 a.m. to midnight, with special ghost tours from 12:30 a.m. – 2 a.m. Click here for more information about the Whaley House.

Scream Zone at the Del Mar Fairgrounds is one of the largest and scariest haunted attractions. The scaregrounds features the House of Horror, Haunted Hayride and The Chamber. The house of horror contains numerous rooms that entail the most gruesome and horrifying scenes ever seen. The haunted hayride takes riders on a tractor-pulled haywagon through the barn with ghosts, zombies and other daunting creatures. The chamber is a spinning labyrinth of scares, has suspense and surprises, with several frightening dead ends. The Scream Zone runs from 7 p.m. to midnight, Fridays and Saturdays, and 7 p.m. to 11 p.m., other days when open. For more information click here.

Haunted Hotel located in the heart of the Gaslamp district is the most visited attraction during this time of year. Utterly terrified by the onslaught of blood, guts and ghouls, it will definitely have you running for dear life through every room. General Admission is $14.99 and VIP is $24.99 with a fast pass entrance. Get scared from Sept. 25 - Oct 31. Sundays, Wednesdays, Thursdays from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. Closed Mondays and Tuesdays except for Oct. 26 and 27.

Haunted Trail at Balboa Park is not your everyday walk in the park. From ghouls, goblins and demons, you never know what might jump out at you on your guided tour of terror. Tickets cost $14.99. Closed every Monday and Tuesday except for the last of the month. Open at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays and at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturdays.

If your heart can’t take the intense scaring sights, sounds and running, the Haunted San Diego Ghost Tours, might just be your thing.
