Point Loma Lighthouse Shines For Its Birthday

Happy Birthday to the Old Point Loma Lighthouse, which  is celebrating its 155th year as a beacon for fisherman, whale watchers, locals and tourists, tour boats, pleasure boaters, cruise ships and the military.

The National Park Service hosted a festival Monday at the Cabrillo National Monument.  Lighthouse tours were given by staff dressed in 19th century period costumes.

People also got to check out the tower, lantern and gallery and watched films about the lighthouse. The Point Loma lighthouse was first lit on November 15th, 1855. It was one of the first lighthouses on the West Coast.
