Local Wins in Man vs. Food Matchup

Anyone who can finish the Beast in the allotted time joins the club.

Sound interesting?

It did to Michael Luong. The unsuspecting local entered Bully's East on his birthday, May 17, and ordered the biggest cut the restaurant offered to celebrate the occasion. Little did he know, the 38 oz  slab of prime rib is known as The Beast.

The steak is so enormous that anyone who can finish the corn fed, mid-western aged cut of meat, in an hour without sharing wins a special Club 38 T-Shirt at Bully’s East.

An avid fan of the cable show "Man vs. Food," Luong said he immediately accepted the challenge.

Now, the rules are pretty strict. Contestants have to eat it all (including two side dishes) in an hour without sharing and can’t leave the table.

Luong said after all the hype, the meal was actually easy to down.

"The meal took me about 20 minutes to finish the meat. Took just a little longer then that just because I was trying to cut around the fat," he said. Bully’s doesn’t expect contestants to eat the fat. But they’ll be the judge of what’s fat and what’s more good stuff.

Believe it or not, after 38 oz of beef with two sides, he was actually still hungry!

Now Luong can take Bully's up on its eat five get a sixth for free (at $49.95 a pop).

So, skip a few meals and head over to Bully’s. If you accomplish the feat, we want to celebrate the size of your stomach. Send us a picture of you in the shirt to isee@nbcsandiego.com!
