Festive Brew, Cheers to That!

During the holiday season more exotic ingredients appear in limited offerings from craft breweries of all sizes.  For 2008, North County's ever-growing cast of artisan breweries have created an array of beers, the North County Times Reported.

None is more wide-ranging than the Special Holiday Ale that Escondido brewer Stone Brewing Co. produced with two other breweries in Michigan and Norway.  Stone and its partner breweries make 1,100 cases of the holiday beer.

At the Karl Strauss Brewing Company & Restaurant, the newest brewers get the assignment of creating a holiday ale.

Poway's Lightning Brewery, which specializes in crisp, clean lagers, turns out its Old Tempest Ale in the winter months.

Then there is Adam Carbonell, head brewer at Back Street Brewery in Vista.  Carbonell's "Santa's Little Fella" ---- an ale named after his dog ---- uses 70 pounds of locally grown persimmons and wildflower honey.
