A Laughing Matter

This is a laughing matter -- Mayor Jerry Sanders has proclaimed Sunday, May 2 World Laughter Day in San Diego.

“The proclamation states that laughter is a free and natural expression of the joyful human spirit and promotes good health,” a news release for World Laughter Day stated.

World Laughter Day took place in Mumbai in 1998 and is now celebrated every year on the second Sunday of May. The local celebration will take place at Marina Village’s Coral Room on May 2. The event promises to feature playful, renewing practices for all ages.

“The formula is simple - when you laugh, you change. And when you change, the world changes around you.” Madan Katara, M.D said in the news release. “We are building a worldwide community of people who believe in unconditional love and laughter.”

The event will begin at 1 p.m. On arrival, guests will receive a free raffle ticket and participate in an hour-long laughter circle at 1:30 p.m. Following the laughter circle there will be a raffle and time for socializing.
