2/16: Big, Fat Tuesday

BEADS, BOOZE & DEBAUCHARY: Help paint the gaslamp district purple, green and gold for its largest one-day festival on this Fat Tuesday. There will be more than 40,000 people wearing feathered boas, crazy hats and colorful beads enjoying musical acts, tasty grub and cold beer. Get your Mardi Gras block party on at 6th street in between streets F and G.

FAST LOVE: If cupid hasn’t struck you with any arrows lately and that lovey dovey holiday on Sunday made you wish you had someone to watch the Notebook with, you may take an interest in speed dating. Zenbu Lounge in Cardiff by the Sea will host the event at 7:30 p.m. And don’t be scared away by any chance of cougars, the event will cater to San Diego’s younger singles community for ages around 24 to 35 and another group for 34 to 45 year-olds. The cost to join the fun is $40, but who can put a price on true love?

BE THE BREAST:  Strip down and sing for breast cancer! Ten boys or girls can sign up to compete at Ruby Room for the evening’s door donations. All contestants have to do is perform one song—and show some skin. All winnings will be split with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer research foundation. The act with the most money thrown onstage takes home half of the door donations and the money they collect from their fans. Think you’ve got what it takes? Get there before 9 p.m. to get ready.
