Where the Wild Things Are

Beat the heat with the Wild Animal Park’s extended summer hours

The San Diego Zoo’s Wild Animal Park has extended their hours from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. instead of their typical 6 p.m. closing time. These summer hours will last until Labor Day, allowing visitors to view animals when they tend to be more active. The Park will also include new exhibits, shows, and activities.

Step back in time at the Dino Mountain Exhibit, lasting until September 7th. This exhibit features over 20 life-size robotic dinosaurs, including the mighty Tyrannosaurus Rex. As kids wander through the Conifer forest, they can pick up a passport to have stamped at stations along the way. Make sure to watch out for the Dilophosaurus, they’ve been known to spit! For future paleontologists, check out the Dino Dig at Jameson Research Island daily from 1-4 p.m.

The Journey into Africa tour now includes twilight rides aboard the African Express. This tram takes passengers on a venture deep into the “Heart of Africa” with up close animal encounters.

Tembo Stadium features the 20-minute, “Bubble Show” with “Bubblologists” that perform demonstrations and encourage the audience to pop in and join the fun. The Stadium also includes the “Magical Mystery Dino Show” with Sir Archibald Higginbottom III who will be presenting his most recent find, Milly, a real live dinosaur!

The Wild Animal Park is also accepting registration for Summer Camp 2009 for grades K-7 now until September 14th. This 5-day camp features extended day options and allows animal-loving kids to partake in arts and crafts, games, and special animal presentations.

If you have youngsters, make sure to bring them to the Fisher Price Play Weekend at the Nairobi Pavilion, August 1st-2nd. The area will be stocked with the latest and greatest toys from Fisher Price, including PowerWheels to take for a test drive!

Don’t miss out on the Park’s Summer Concerts at the Malawi Picnic Grove Saturday August 8th and 29th featuring the bands Rockola and City Limits.
