Want Something Free to do This Weekend?

Despite cutbacks in education and public services across the board in San Diego, there is a white knight for learning during the tough economic times. The New Children’s Museum and San Diego's Public Library have worked together to create a program for families to have access, regardless of income level.

Library patrons can check out a membership card—just like they would a book—to the New Children’s Museum at their local branch library. Loaners will receive all benefits that a regular member would receive. Two adults and all children in the family can visit the museum’s galleries, participate in hands-on art projects in the studio and receive discounts at the café and store.

“Creative partnerships like this are particularly important during these tough economic times,” said Deborah Barrow, the Director of the San Diego Public Library in a press release. “Families are increasingly turning to their libraries for free resources, cultural connections and recreational opportunities. The chance to “check out The New Children’s Museum” will open a whole new world of creative exploration for the young and those who are young at heart.”

The New Children’s Museum is a non-profit organization and one of the first “green” museums in California. It opened a new facility in downtown in May of last year.
