Take a Nap! It's Good for You

Local university stages it's first "Nap-In"

Have you ever had the urge to just go take a nap in the middle of the day?  To show the world that a snooze in the afternoon is good for you students at UC San Diego are staging their first "Nap-In" March 9 . It coincides with the daylight saving time change when Americans lose an hour of sleep. Students are encouraged to bring their blankets and their teddy bears  and learn how napping can change your life from Sara Melnick, assistant professor of psychiatry at the School of Medicine. She says a mid-day shut-eye is important in maintaining mental and physical health for people of all ages.

Melnick has been researching napping since grad school and says nappers make fewer mistakes, are in better moods and in better health. And in fact it "has been shown to be a more effective 'boost' than a cup of coffee. The more you nap the better you sleep, the better you do".
