Putting the GRRRR… in BRRRR…

Onlookers giggled as polar bears rolled, stretched, slid and played in 20 tons of shaved ice Saturday.

Three polar bears got an early holiday treat as San Diego Zoo guests watched their funny antics. Once the snow was done, the bears dug up treats that animal care staff had hidden in the snow.

"We like to bring snow into the polar bear exhibit a couple of times a year to vary the bears' environment and give them new things to investigate," said animal keeper JoAnne Simmerson.

Sadly it won't be white Christmas for the polar bears. The snow is expected to melt through the weekend -- but then what do expect when you live in San Diego?
