A San Diego woman won the chance to meet her favorite late night talk show host by entering her "A Letter to a Friend” clip.
Conan O’Brien is swapping coasts and shows. He’s moving to Los Angeles and taking over the "Tonight" slot on NBC starting June 1.
For fans of the New York-based “Late Night with Conan O’Brien," the change is both creating excitement (he’ll be on an hour earlier) while at the same time causing anxiety (will he bring Triumph with him?).
When O'Brien announced he was visiting NBCSanDiego on March 18, we wanted to make sure a fan of the show got the chance to meet him.
So NBCSanDiego.com put the call out to local fans asking for proof that they are, in fact, O'Brien's biggest fan. We asked for video clips submitted to isee@nbcsandiego.com. Of the entries, we laughed, we cried, we chose one lucky winner. Lisa Grove impressed us with her "A Letter to a Friend" clip, which chronicles the last episode of "Late Night" a la Jane Austen, with a Bach score. Anyone who can use "Conan the Barbarian" in the same two minutes as the phrase "perchance, to dream" had us at hello.
The San Diego State graduate student wrote the script for the video, and her friend Javier Kadry edited the video.
"We watched Conan for so long, we love his comedy and humor," Grove said about her passion for Conan that led her and Kadry to create the video.
After meeting Conan, they described the meeting as natural.
"It felt so cool," Grove said.
They said the best part of the experience is knowing they won't have to stay up so late to watch him any more.
More of Conan at the studio was set to air on NBC 7/39 at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.
