Graffiti Art: Yes, It's Real

NBCSanDiego.com does not condone graffiti…officially.

But c’mon! Some of it is so cool! The newest form of graffiti that is taking over is just impossible to ignore. You have probably seen a grenade, a MAD-TV inspired George W. Bush or a gorilla spray-painted across street signs and the sides of apartment buildings. It probably is some political statement of some sort, who knows? Stencil graffiti, unlike its usually illegible gang banger-style counterpart, is an illicit art form that is worth noticing.

Russel Howze is one of the premier photographers of this diverse art form and he is on tour for his new book “Stencil Nation: Graffiti, Community and Art”. He will be stopping off in San Diego tonight to promote his book that is loaded with more than 350 stencil artists from 28 countries and features more than 500 full-color photographs.

Check out Howze’s free show at the Groundwork Bookstore at 322 Student Ctr in La Jolla.
