The slumping economy has singles in San Diego and around the nation looking for cheaper ways to impress their dates.
Instead of fine dining, couples are headed to happy hours and free museums (that's Tuesdays in Balboa Park, for you bargain-dating hunters). Looking good comes at a price too, and singles are cutting back on their dating outfits.
A recent survey of 2,200 singles by True.com showed that about half of men have curbed their romantic expenses, compared with a third of women.
There is an upside, however: Some singles say that by looking for cheaper alternatives, their dates are more creative.
