Cycling Fans Flock to San Diego

If you love cycling, then you probably love San Diego. With it’s perennial beautiful weather and endless amount of scenic routes, there’s never a bad time to ride.

If you’re one of these fun-seeking, freewheelin’ kinda people, then you might like to check out San Diego’s first annual Custom Bicycle Show.

More than 60 different exhibitors will bring their wares to America’s finest city, at the San Diego Town and Country Hotel in Mission Valley.

The three-day event, taking place from April 3rd-5th, will feature not only bicycle builders from around the country, but also some local guys too.

Chuck Schlesinger, owner of San Diego based Sadilah Handmade Framesets, helped organize the convention. The custom bicycle maker said this event isn’t just for those spandex-clad cyclists you see riding up and down the strand, but for everyone.

“This event really draws people from all aspects of life,” he said. “Children, adults, cyclists, non-cyclists—I’m really amazed most of the time when non-cyclists show up and are really taken aback by what can be done with a bicycle.”

While it’s not his main source of income, Schlesinger builds bikes for fun. He said that getting a bike from a local retailer is good, yes, but the difference between getting a mass-produced bike and a custom made bike is like getting a suit from the Men’s Fashion Depot versus getting it tailored to fit you.

So whether city bikes are more your style, or maybe you’re mountain biking folk, check out the 1st Annual San Diego Custom Bicycle Show.

Tickets will go on sale at the event for $15 each day, or a two-day Saturday and Sunday pass for $25. If you’re really a cycling fanatic, come check out the Friday frame-building seminar as well as the other two days for $40.

This event is non-profit and proceeds will help fund the city velodrome.
