Who knew that when the Indian dance troupe, Ragamala was booked at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts, that the nation would be going crazy over the Mumbai-based film, Slumdog Millionaire, said Michael Rennie who's Executive Director of the PCPA Foundation.
"This is one (performance) not to be missed,” he added.
Ragamala Music and Dance Theater bridges the gap between ancient and modern cultures. It's rooted in a classical dance form from southern India, which blends music, and poetry with dance.
The performance is a showcase of complex rhythmic structures and unbelievable athleticism says Rennie.
Besides the Indian dance troup there is the thundering percussion and stunning physicality of Wadaiko Ensemble, an internationally celebrated troupe of Japanese Taiko drummers.
With the popularity of the Academy award winning Slumdog Millionaire and its celebration of Indian culture, Rennie hopes that Ragamala will seem "less foreign" to the audience, but instead will entice people to come see the exciting and explosive performance.
It is a one-time only performance, April 4 at PCPA.
