The first men to orbit on the moon -- and the first to step on it -- were honored at an appearance at the San Diego Air & Space Museum.
Neil Armstrong was on hand for the event, which was held in anticipation of the 40th anniversary of Apollo 8's historic flight to the moon in late December 1968. During the flight, the astronauts on board were the first to witness what the earth rising over the lunar landscape.
“The Earth was the only thing in the universe that had any color,” Frank Borman, who is now 80 and was also on board for the trip, said Thursday at the event.
Seven months later, Armstrong stepped on the moon.
Also on hand for the event were Apollo 11 Astronaut Buzz Aldrin, Apollo 7 Astronaut Walter Cunningham, Apollo 12 Astronaut Alan Bean and Apollo 13 Astronaut Fred Haise.
