Sept. 11 attacks

First-responders and civilians climbed more than 100 flights of stairs in the Hilton Bayfront Hotel at an event that symbolized what firefighters and police faced in New York 22 years ago on Monday.

President Joe Biden has marked the 21st anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks, taking part in a somber wreath-laying ceremony held at the Pentagon under a steady rain.

By tradition, no political figures speak at the ground zero ceremony. The observance centers, instead, on relatives reading aloud the names of the dead.

“9/11 remains one of the most significant events many Americans have experienced,” said Dan Vallone, director for More in Common USA. “But it is receding into history for younger Americans.”

Members of the advocacy group 9/11 Justice condemned Trump for hosting a tournament for the Saudi-funded LIV golf league at his club in Bedminster, N.J.
