A North County woman who punched a great white shark in the eye following a nearly-deadly attack spoke exclusively with NBC 7 about her road to recovery.

Regular Racing, a motorsports racing team in Carlsbad, are known for their competitive spirits on the track. But these tough guys also have not-so-tough hearts and they are getting into the holiday spirits.

The mother of three sat down with NBC7 and explained how her life changed that Saturday afternoon on San Onofre’s State Beach. She says strangers who have helped her family have now become friends.

Closures were ordered in the same area a week ago after two dozen great whites were seen, including one about 10 feet long.

Lifeguards are advising swimmers and surfers to stay aware of their surroundings at San Onofre State Beach despite a 48-hour shark warning being lifted at the beach.

An increase in shark sightings in San Clemente prompted lifeguards to close the beach. There was even a six-foot shark reeled in by a fisherman off the pier. NBC 7’s Artie Ojeda has more.
