High Gas Prices

If you compare gas prices around the world, Hong Kong consistently ranks at the top with an average of $12 a gallon, reports NBC 7’s Marianne Kushi.

Despite the uptick, experts say gas prices are likely to keep going down. Why? NBC 7’s Kelvin Henry has the story.

A 59-day streak of dropping prices at the pump ended Sunday when the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in San Diego County increased one-tenth of a cent to $5.358.

San Diego’s gas prices set another record for the 12th day in a row, bringing the average price for a gallon of regular self-serve gas up three cents to $6.311.

“Prior to buying this car, I was spending $2,000 a month in gas,” Kevin Hopkins told NBC 7’s Brooke Martell, referring to his Tesla.

The national average price rose two cents Saturday to a record $4.452, erasing the previous record set Friday.
