This week San Diego’s City Council voted to move forward with a proposed program to use both automated license plate readers and smart streetlight cameras, despite concerns from residents over privacy issues.

NBC 7’s Priya Sridhar heard from community activists and privacy experts about the implementation of license plate readers in El Cajon.

A 22-year-old driver was arrested Wednesday after police say he struck and killed a 20-year-old woman and then fled the scene while he was allegedly under the influence of drugs in El Cajon.
