Brother and sister duo Matt and Becca Hamilton gave Team USA its first win in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, defeating athletes from Russia 9-3 in mixed doubles curling, a new event in this year’s games.

The last time Matt and Becca Hamilton faced off against Russia in mixed doubles curling was at the 2017 World Championships, a match in which they were defeated 7-5 and eliminated from contention. During Wednesday night’s opener of the 2018 Winter Olympics, the Hamilton’s got their revenge in a big way, defeating Team OAR 9-3 in seven ends.

By qualifying for both the new mixed doubles discipline and the traditional, single-gender event, American curlers Matt and Becca Hamilton could be on the ice for as many as 50 hours — by far the longest anyone will be in live competition at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
