The Return of the Rocket Man

Singer/songwriter Sir Elton John will return to San Diego on July 24 at Cricket Wireless Amphitheater

Per Live Nation: "This will mark Elton’s first appearance in the San Diego area since his sold-out performance in 2005. Elton and his band will perform their Rocket Man -- the Greatest Hits Live concert, featuring No. 1 chart hits and classic album tracks from throughout Elton’s incredible five-decade career."

John has sold more than 250 million records, and in 2008, Billboard magazine ranked him as the third  most successful artist of all-time (behind the Beatles and Madonna).

Inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, John has a lush history in San Diego. In addition to a long list of live performances in town (anyone remember the Elton John/Billy Joel at Jack Murphy Stadium in 1995?), former San Diego resident Cameron Crowe featured Elton's "Tiny Dancer" in 2000's Almost Famous.

Thierry Gray of Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre said the following about John's return to San Diego: “We are thrilled to welcome Elton John to the stage. He is an iconic artist with one of the most celebrated songbooks in all of popular music.  His music transcends generations, and his live shows are absolutely electric events.”

Having seen John multiple times in San Diego -- as well as his production of "The Red Piano" -- in Las Vegas, I couldn't agree more.
