Sounds Like San Diego: Oct. 15

RiseUp AS ONE border concert celebrates inclusivity

I very much resent when a musical artist (or actor, celeb, whatever) decides to share their political stances and people get upset over it. You know, when the Dixie Chicks spoke out against the war, it actually made me a fan. In all the history of music, people's voices and politics have always been at the heart of the most meaningful music. Today, a historic event will take place right here in our home. A bi-national concert -- taking place at the Cross Border XPress by the Otay Border Crossing -- will feature local Julieta Venegas, Alejandro Sanz, Carlos Vives and many more. Expect a lot of political speech and some amazing music, but only if you were lucky enough to win tickets, because that's the only way fans can attend. Meanwhile, just up the street, Prophets of Rage make their San Diego debut. Members of Public Enemy and Rage Against the Machine don't like the status quo, and they are here to make america rage again. If you prefer your music a la carte and mostly without politics (or at least a little more subtle), try the 1975 at OAT, Trails and Ways at the Hideout or Helado Negro at Soda Bar.
